Where a labour hire worker requires PPE to safely perform their work, labour hire providers and hosts should ensure that PPE is provided at no cost to the worker. Providers and hosts must make sure that PPE and other safety equipment continues to meet standards required by health and safety legislation. For further information visit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.worksafe.vic.gov.au\/labour-hire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.worksafe.vic.gov.<wbr \/>au\/labour-hire<\/a><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>PPE that must be provided depends on the type of work being done and associated risks. PPE may include items such as:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"m_-5169216368744607928last-child\">\n<li>hardhats and helmets<\/li>\n<li>safety glasses and goggles<\/li>\n<li>ear plugs<\/li>\n<li>gloves<\/li>\n<li>face masks and face shields<\/li>\n<li>safety boots<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>In the meat manufacturing and processing industry, labour hire providers and hosts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>must not require any worker to pay to get the Q Fever vaccination; and<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>must provide Q Fever vaccination to workers free of charge where it is a requirement for work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Hosts (including providers who subcontract) should note that if they do not pay their providers enough to ensure the provider can meet their legal obligations, they may be held responsible for those breaches. For example, hosts can be held liable as an accessory for their provider\u2019s breaches of the\u00a0<em>Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLabour hire workers have the same legal rights regarding health and safety as any other worker and should be supplied with required PPE free of charge,\u201d said Labour Hire Licensing Commissioner, Steve Dargavel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProviders should now be absolutely aware that they should not charge their workers or prospective workers for personal protective equipment required for work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is deeply unfair to make job applicants or workers \u2013 some full-time workers on as little as $772.60 per week \u2013 to pay up to $350 for a Q fever vaccination and $150 for safety boots.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-5169216368744607928last-child\">\u201cVictoria\u2019s labour hire licensing scheme is preventing the exploitation of labour hire workers by providers unlawfully making workers pay for safety equipment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The AMIEU notified the Labour Hire Licensing Authority that some providers in the meat manufacturing industry require workers and prospective workers to pay for Q fever vaccinations and some Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).<\/p>","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":4915,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v21.5 (Yoast SEO v22.9) -
